Thinking of our friends and clients in the Metro area

Hurricane Sandy certainly has taken it's toll on the towns and residences on the East Coast.  Our thoughts and sympathies go out to all of our friends and clients in New York, New Jersey, and Cape Cod who seem to have gotten hit the worst.

THINGS ARE LOOKING UP

Ive found that when it comes to building a new house or remodeling an old one, people often times forget to address their ceilings.  Ceilings are a great place to add detail, texture and color to your home.  When it comes to ceiling height, we always tend toward "the higher the better".  So why not take advantage of your height by drawing your eye up!

We see here an updated twist on an old design, with the use of a tin ceiling in this beautiful kitchen.  With modern-day products available to us, we are able to choose a variety of color and finish options for a Tin application.  Here, you can see how the floors and ceilings have been tied in together with the use of color and texture.

There are so many creative ideas floating around in the minds of designers.  This application is a pattern comprised of applied mouldings.  With a pattern this large, it is typical to use a computer program in order to get the scale just right.

There isn't much, more beautiful then an artistic touch.  This ceiling has been gold-leafed and glazed.  The sunburst medallion demands to be noticed in this Transitional Living Room.

This is a traditional-style coffered ceiling that has been turned contemporary.  I love the hardwood detail on the Fireplace and ceiling, while the floor is a stained concrete.  This is really thinking out-of-the-box.

You only get one chance to make a good first impression!  This two-story entryway is certainly not lacking in impressive detail.

Painting the ceiling inside of the beams is a great way to add detail and interest to a simple-style coffered ceiling.

Another great way to bring Traditional into the 21st century by giving it a Contemporary feel.
I can't say enough about this application.  It doesn't get any more beautiful than this!  Hand-made Italian tiles comprised of Capiz shells give this Dinning Room a warm elegant feel, with the timeless sophistication of Italian artistry.

I find that my clients are often nervous about addressing their ceilings.  They think that it's too risky.  I can't disagree more!  Whats' more risky is fitting into that boring white box and never exploring the options you have to dress up your prime square footage!

Check out what our good friends at Houzz had to say about the benefits of "box beam" ceilings

"Fall" into some great ideas for your home!

Is there really anything better then Fall in New England?  We don't think so!  It's the perfect combination of crisp air and beautiful foliage.  The kids are back in school leaving more time for home projects before the frigid weather arrives.  It's a perfect time to address that out-dated fireplace that should be a focal point, but is more like an eye-sore.  Check out a few ideas that we have on creating a warm and inviting environment that will make you want to snuggle up and stay inside!

Guest Blog all about Lighting!

Hello! I'm Jessica, a writer for Arcadian Lighting, a wonderful online resource for affordable light fixtures. Every day I get to search for beautiful interior design inspirations and then share them on lovely blogs. Thank you for letting me stop by today, Allison! What better source of inspiration for your home than a classic English garden in full bloom? I hope you enjoy!
English Garden Shed
Watering cans and chipped white paint give this cozy corner the simplistic charm of a garden shed. I love the quilts covering the bed by the window.
Tea Table Chandelier A table set for tea and shimmering chandelier create a stunning, romantic atmosphere, complete with fresh greenery. This enclosed patio is perfectly elegant.
White Wicker Chairs
The all-white wicker chairs are a great way to bring the fresh feel of a summer patio indoors. Rose patterns and prints add a definite English garden atmosphere, as well.
Fence Wall
This lattice fence paneling is such a clever way to add a garden element to any room. The pastel blue wall color helps complete the scene, as do the statuesque quality of the table lamps.
Garden Room
Soft green hues mix together beautifully with the exposed wood paneling in this lovely living room. The natural textures of the wood and the floral patterns are a perfect combination.
Wallpaper Room
The pastel shades of yellow and blue on rose patterned wallpaper create a quirky, vintage atmosphere. The striped pillows and setee are like a garden bench in the summer time.
Garden Bench
I love the mix of pale pinks and well-weathered white painted furniture in this kitchen. A garden bench at the kitchen table is such a clever idea.
English Garden decor
The faded fabric curtains and rustic garden décor in this kitchen are wonderful shabby chic elements inspired by English gardens. A mini Grecian urn holds a bouquet of lush white rose, the kind that could be found in a Romantic poem. Images 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8   What do you think of English garden inspired décor? Let us know in the comments! And be sure to stop by Arcadian Lighting for a brilliant light fixture or two to brighten your home!

Divine Dining Rooms

We are so happy to be recognized once again by the Houzz community for "Top 10 Divine Dinning Rooms".    There is nothing more luxurious then being able to dine in style.

The tableware in our featured dining room is comprised of crystal, silver, pewter and murano glass. The handmade, hand beaded place mats, napkins, and table runner are made from the finest silk and were custom designed specifically for this home.  Some of the pieces can be purchased through Arte Italica http://www.arteitalica.com/ , a company dealing specifically in luxury tabletop items.

This is an overview of the dining room featured on Houzz.  There are many luxury items in this space from the custom Italian Capis shells on the ceiling to the handmade wool and silk rug from Tibet.  The Italian crystal chandelier reflects all the wonderful glasswear on the custom finished dining table.  The client spared no expense when it came to furnishing the jewel of this home, and it's certainly reflected here.

We are so proud to have been given the opportunity to work on this project.  This client specifically has become a life-long friend and we cannot say enough wonderful things about them.

Thank You!!!

Natural Paint Colors

We are very excited to be featured in a Houzz article this month, talking about muted and soothing paint colors.  Check out the article:

Most people respond very positively to natural colors — softer greens, browns and blues. Organic colors are nurturing and very easy to live with because they bring a sense of harmony to our homes and our lives. They bring in a taste of the sea and sky.
For a peaceful-looking bedroom, choose a bed with a bamboo or natural woven facade. This material will look great with any wall color, but choose a soft, muted paint color for an overall organic feel.

Suggested paint pick:Spring Valley, Benjamin Moore

2012 Color Trends

I often get asked " what's IN now? " in which I typically respond "whatever you love is what's IN." I have to admit that I'm more often a fan of Timeless as opposed to Trendy, but sometimes in this ever-changing world, you have to succumb to the fleeting impressions of poufs and foiled flock wallpaper.
On my recent trip to Market in Las Vegas, I was surprised and delighted to see a new wave of bold color combinations emerging.  The new pumped-up version of rich jewel tones and funky pattern combinations seemed to breath new life into the season.  I don't know if it was the sunshine or the oxygen, but after returning from my trip, I felt refreshed and excited for this welcome addition to Taupe.
With that said, I was equally as impressed and still not sick of the ever-present Taupe phenomena sweeping the nation.  The color once described as "cell wall gray" has taken over the country, blending, warming, and sometimes cooling almost any color scheme.  I have to admit, it has become my guilty pleasure.
This season I'll be happy being Trendy!
